BLACK HISTORY MONTH: AMBIENT SPECIAL ON CRACK AUDIO

I was invited to create an ambient mix for Crack Magazine’s ‘Crack Audio’ to commemorate this year’s Black History Month. It was important for me to include artists that not only inspire me but are also creating sounds and art that is quite timely as we all can use a bit more ambience in our lives. Below is more from Crack Magazine and their intention behind this month’s curation.
February is Black History Month. To commemorate the occasion – a celebration of culture, achievements and contributions of Black people in the US and beyond – Crack Magazine will be sharing a selection of mixes curated by Black artists, featuring Black artists. From drone to punk, dream pop to indie, we’ll be highlighting genres that are historically seen – and treated – as white, despite having Black origins. Today’s mix comes courtesy of A Space for Sound.
Rena Anakwe is a Brooklyn-based artist, performer and healer. Her A Space for Sound project resides at the intersection of her various endeavours. Listeners are encouraged – supported, even – to find peace and respite through her sonic experiments, which bring together ambient sounds and healing frequencies.
